The daily mud report, done right.
MudBook replaces the Excel drilling fluid report with a Windows app built for location. Enter today's numbers, and inventory, cost, volumes and hydraulics are worked out for you. Then print a clean one-page report with your company's logo on it.
- Easy for anyone. Company men, office staff and new hands pick it up fast.
- No Excel cells to mess up. Calculations are locked in and done for you.
- Works fully offline. No signal on location? No problem.
- Your company's branding on the report, not ours.
- Built-in engineer cheat sheets and AI assistance.
- Regular updates with new calculations and features.
For Windows 10 and 11. Now in beta testing.
The spreadsheet wasn't built for the rig.
If your daily report lives in a locked-down Excel workbook, you know how it goes. It works, until it doesn't.
- One stray keystroke overwrites a formula, and the totals quietly go wrong.
- A corrupted workbook, and nobody can open the report.
- Only one person on the crew knows how the spreadsheet works.
- Carrying yesterday's inventory forward by hand.
- Fixing one number on an old report and re-keying every day after it.
- Fighting the print area so the report fits on one legal page.
- Emailing workbooks back and forth when a well changes hands.
- Hydraulics and solids math scattered across separate sheets and calculators.
What MudBook does instead
- No cells to break. Every calculation is locked in and done for you.
- Plain screens anyone can follow, from new hands to office staff.
- Each new report copies yesterday's well setup, pumps, targets and closing inventory.
- Edit an earlier report and every later report updates: start, usage, cost and well totals.
- One click makes a one-page, legal-size (8.5 × 14) PDF, every time.
- Send a whole well, every day of it, to another engineer as a single file.
- Volumes, hydraulics and solids calculate live as you type.
- Everything saves automatically, with a dated backup every day.
Everything on the daily sheet, and the math behind it
Built around the same workflow as the drilling fluid report you already use, so there is very little to learn.
No Excel cells to mess up
No broken formulas, overwritten cells or corrupted spreadsheets. You enter the numbers. MudBook does the math with calculations that are locked in, the same way every time.
Easy for anyone
Built for the whole crew, not just the engineer. Company men, office staff and new hands can find their way around on day one. A step-by-step wizard sets up each new well.
Offline daily mud reports
Today strip (depth, TVD, activity, pump, SPM, pressure), mud properties with two checks side by side, recommended treatment and remarks. All your data lives on your laptop. No internet needed to write, calculate or print.
Your logo on the printout
A one-page 8.5 × 14 report with your company's logo, name and disclaimer, and nothing else. MudBook stays in the background. Values outside the recommended range print in red, and prices can be hidden for operators who don't want them shown.
Inventory and cost
Enter received, returned and closing counts. Usage and cost are calculated, and day and well totals roll up live. Low-stock warnings, physical recounts, and price snapshots so old reports keep their prices.
AI advisor and assistant
A built-in offline advisor checks the open report and flags things like mud weight over target, hardness, pH, low stock and the AFE budget, with a suggested treatment. Turn on the optional AI assistant to ask mud questions about the current report or draft the day's remarks.
The AI assistant is optional and uses your own API key from the AI provider you choose, or a local model. Suggestions are advisory. The engineer on location makes the call.
Built-in engineer cheat sheets
The Hydraulics Guide explains every calculated value in plain words: what it is, how it's calculated, typical ranges and why it matters. Reference tables cover casing sizes, drill pipe, HWDP and collars, bit sizes and mud pump models.
Coming Unit conversions and quick-reference formula sheets.
Regular updates
MudBook keeps improving, with fixes, new calculations and the features engineers ask for. Updates are included with a subscription, and with a one-time license for its first year.
Hydraulics
Pump output, circulation times, annular and critical velocity, annular pressure loss (Bingham and power-law), ECD, and bit hydraulics: TFA, bit pressure drop, jet velocity, HHP, HSI and impact force.
Solids and rheology
Retort solids analysis per API RP 13B-1 with brine correction: corrected solids, LGS and HGS. PV and YP from Fann readings, power-law n and K, plus weight-up, dilution, mixing and kill-sheet calculators.
Pass a well between engineers
Save the whole well, its setup and every daily report, as one .mudwell file. The next engineer imports it and picks up where you left off.
Remote manager support Coming
A manager or administrator will be able to connect to an engineer's live report from the office and work through issues and gaps together, in real time. Problems get caught and fixed before the report goes out.
Also included: trend charts and an end-of-well recap you can export to Excel, well templates and a searchable archive of finished wells, optional sync to your own company server, admin mode to lock the price list and formula constants, price list import from Excel or CSV, and a dated backup every day.
